MELBOURNE'S NUMBER 1 SOCIAL GOLF GROUP
Explosion Golf is one of Melbourne’s biggest and well-run social golf groups. We use a unique scoring system that doesn’t rely on handicaps, so you compete against your playing partners on the day, and against the whole membership base for the title. Our competition is based on a season of performances, not just a day against your handicap.
2023 is our 20th season, and with a full fixture down on the peninsula, we're sure you'll enjoy the golf, enjoy the company and enjoy the post round stories over a cold beer.
We aren't just a social group, we're the Explosion Golf ‘family’, where you won’t just meet a playing partner for the day, you’ll meet a new mate who you’re going to run into at every event. Make sure your banter game is sharp, it will definitely be required when you want to make a charge for points, mouthing off is highly encouraged!
2022 RECAP
2022 has been and gone, and what a great season we had. Getting back to golf with no restrictions was awesome and we managed to avoid the bad weather for most of the year as only Explosion knows how.
The season was DOMINATED by one bloke in particular. TITTIES had 3 round wins for the year, he cleaned up the CROWEDOG SHIELD as well for most points in the regular season (632 at an average just over 90, while also missing a round) and when it came to the final he was there to win.
The final was another great day, and while the Group 1 final looked like it was a formality with TITTIES leading NIEVVY by 30 points with 2 holes to play, it was left to the very last putt to win as NIEVVY won the 17th outright and called Explosion on the 18th along with TITTIES.
When NIEVVY put his approach to about 20 feet, the pressure was on but TITTIES calmly put his approach to 6 feet. When NIEVVY rolled in the birdie putt the pressure was all on TITTIES to nail the 6 footer and capture the 2022 title in the process. He calmly slotted the putt and the rest is history. A great show for the boys surrounding the 18th green to say the least!
Unfortunately all the scorecards went missing, and we fear the staff might have thrown them out while we were having a few post round beers, but a massive congratulations for all the group winners to get the job done on the big day.
2023 - LET'S GO!
Round 1 kicks off on February 12 at the Dunes, a course that cannot be praised enough for both conditioning and hospitality.
Anybody is welcome to join, call or message either NIEVVY or BULLETS (details in the footer) and we'll happily get you on board.
The full fixture will be posted in the coming days, but once again we'll be peninsula bound for the year. We dare you to complain about that!

ARE YOU GOOD ENOUGH?
Of course you are! This is a true social golf group and we accept any level of golfer. The graph below shows the breakdown of the official and non-official handicaps of our members from 2019.
You may get a hiding every now and then but you'll also dish out some punishment when the averages fall your way. Best of all, the finals are for all levels, so you only have to beat your 3 opponents on the day!
